Security, Technical & Infrastructure
Reliable infrastructure depends on people who can install, maintain and troubleshoot it safely.
This domain brings together practical technical work for homes, businesses and institutions—from computer support and connectivity to CCTV and solar-related services.
The course families below are proposed learning and work pathways for exploration. They do not confirm that every programme is currently available, that a job is guaranteed, or that a candidate qualification mapping is formal recognition or authorisation.
About This Domain
Homes, shops, offices, schools and other organisations rely on working computers, networks, internet connections, security equipment and essential technical systems. This domain focuses on the practical skills needed to install, check, maintain and troubleshoot such equipment within a worker’s competence.
The KarmaYoga catalogue groups related tasks into a small number of course families. Individual technologies—such as broadband, fibre, networking, CCTV or solar—may require separate practical modules or specialist tracks. A broad course title must not be taken to mean that one learner or qualification is authorised to perform every type of technical work.

Qualification candidate Reference Mapping note
Broadband Technician TEL/Q0102 Strong candidate for broadband work; Version 2
appeared in the mapping research.
Optical Fiber TEL/Q6401 Strong candidate for Technician optical-fibre work;
Version 2 appeared in the mapping research.
CCTV Installation ELE/Q4605 Candidate for CCTV Technician installation tasks.
Field Technician — ELE/Q4606 Candidate for relevant Networking and Storage
networking and storage field-service tasks.
These are complementary, not interchangeable qualifications. Broadband, fibre, networking and CCTV should be mapped to the relevant tasks and may need separate modules or tracks. One qualification should not be assumed to authorise every installation type.
Safety and work boundaries
Practical training should address relevant electrical safety, safe use of tools, work-at-height precautions where applicable, permissions to access premises or network infrastructure, testing and documentation. Work must remain within the person’s training, equipment, supervision and applicable legal requirements.
3. Solar & Essential Technical Services Assistant
Course family: KY-TECH-3
This pathway introduces defined assistant-level work related to solar and other essential technical services. The work scope must be clearly distinguished from independent installation, electrical work or engineering responsibility that requires additional competence or authorisation.
Possible learning areas
- Understanding basic solar-system components.
- Identifying tools, materials and equipment used in the chosen task.
- Supporting installation work under appropriate supervision.
- Following site safety and equipment-handling procedures.
- Recording checks and reporting faults.
- Understanding the limits of assistant-level work and when to escalate.
The exact practical tasks must be set by the chosen pathway, trainer capability, equipment and applicable requirements. Do not infer that this broad course family includes every solar or electrical task.
Possible work directions
- Solar installation assistant.
- Technical-service assistant for defined renewable-energy tasks.
- Support worker for equipment inspection or maintenance, where trained.
- Further progression into a more specialised solar or electrical pathway after meeting its requirements.

Qualification candidate Reference Mapping note
Solar Panel ELE/Q5901 Strong candidate Installation Technician identified for
solar installation; verify current qualification details and task coverage.
Solar PV System ELE/Q5902 More advanced adjacent Installation Engineer
candidate; not the default mapping for an assistant-level course.
Relevant qualifications from the Skill Council for Green Jobs or Power Sector may also need investigation for specific renewable-energy or electrical modules. The mapping register does not establish that one qualification covers the full range of possible essential technical services.
Which Pathway May Suit You?
- You enjoy solving computer problems and helping users: explore Computer & IT Support Technician.
- You prefer hands-on installation and connectivity work: explore Broadband, Fibre, Networking & CCTV Technician.
- You are interested in renewable energy and practical site work: investigate Solar & Essential Technical Services Assistant and its specific entry and safety requirements.
These are starting points, not eligibility decisions. Consider your interest in hands-on work, comfort with tools and equipment, ability to follow safety procedures, access to practical training, and the requirements of the specific occupation.
Where Can This Work Take Place?
Depending on the specialisation and employer, possible settings include:
- Homes, shops, offices and small businesses.
- Schools and other institutions.
- Internet service and connectivity operations.
- IT support teams and computer-service businesses.
- CCTV and security-technology service providers.
- Solar installation and technical-service organisations.
- Local field-service work and maintenance contracts.
Most installation, cabling, equipment repair and site-maintenance work is in person. Some helpdesk, documentation or remote troubleshooting tasks may be performed remotely when the equipment, permissions, employer and customer arrangements allow. Remote support does not replace physical inspection when a problem requires on-site work.
Independent service work may be a longer-term direction for some learners. It requires suitable competence, safe procedures, appropriate tools, customer trust and compliance with applicable requirements; it is not a guaranteed outcome of training.
How Progression May Work
KarmaYoga’s internal vocational structure describes increasing capability and responsibility:
Foundation → Certificate → Diploma
- Foundation: learn and practise defined tasks with appropriate supervision and safety controls.
- Certificate: build the ability to complete a broader set of defined jobs more independently, where the pathway supports that outcome.
- Diploma: develop broader service-delivery, job coordination, quality-control or service-provider capabilities where appropriate.
Progression into more advanced installation, electrical, fibre or specialist work may require additional practical training, assessment, equipment, supervision or legal authorisation. A learner should not move beyond the scope of demonstrated competence simply because they have completed a general course.
These internal stages are not automatically equivalent to NSQF levels or external occupational qualifications.
Safety, Equipment & Entry Requirements
Technical work can create risks to people, property, equipment and network services if performed incorrectly. Before selecting a particular pathway, confirm:
- The specific tasks the learner will be trained to perform.
- Required education, experience or other entry conditions.
- Practical training hours, facilities, tools and trainer capability.
- Supervision, assessment and workplace-exposure arrangements.
- Electrical, ladder, work-at-height, site-access and equipment-handling precautions relevant to the chosen tasks.
- Any required qualification, licence, permission or other authorisation.
- The current details and status of any external qualification being considered.
A broad course family is not a substitute for task-specific safety training.
Understanding the Qualification Mapping
The codes on this page are candidate mappings identified in the working KarmaYoga qualification-mapping register. They are provided to guide further investigation, not to claim that a KarmaYoga course is officially recognised or that WARA KarmaYoga Foundation Trust is authorised to train, assess or certify against a qualification.
Before making a formal alignment or delivery claim, verify the current qualification title, code, version and status; entry requirements; training hours; full Qualification Pack and National Occupational Standards; assessment and awarding arrangements; and whether an authorised delivery route is available. Compare the complete competencies with the actual KarmaYoga curriculum and practical tasks.
Where a qualification covers only one technology or part of a course family, that limitation should remain explicit. Do not force one mapping to cover all technical specialisations.
